Kenji Omakase
About This Spot
Walking into Kenji Omakase in the heart of New Orleans offers an experience that feels both intimate and quietly refined. This sushi restaurant carries an energy that is lively yet measured, a place where moment-to-moment discovery is encouraged without overwhelming the senses. The lighting is soft, the seating thoughtfully arranged, allowing conversations to flow gently alongside the carefully prepared dishes arriving at the table.
Here, dining moves at a pace that invites you to savor each bite and each shared glance around the room. The omakase format unfolds like a personal journey, where delicate slices of fresh fish, from silky salmon sashimi to nuanced mackerel and toro, arrive thoughtfully portioned to heighten appreciation rather than rush consumption. The mood balances a cultivated attention to detail with a welcoming warmth, a harmony reflected in the subtle pulse of the restaurant’s atmosphere.
Beyond the sushi bar, the experience extends to small plates and unexpected companions — think roasted Brussels sprouts with a light, crisp finish or a touch of tempura lobster’s golden crunch. Drinks here are part of the conversation too, with sake and inventive cocktails that complement the flavors without overpowering them. Each element is presented with a kind of mindful simplicity, allowing the natural quality of ingredients to speak quietly but confidently.
Kenji Omakase feels like a quietly curated moment in the bustling New Orleans scene, a place where the expertise of the chefs meets the friendly attentiveness of the staff. The service strikes a harmonious balance, knowledgeable without being intrusive, offering guidance that enhances the exploration rather than dictating it. Whether you come with familiarity in omakase or are stepping into this type of experience for the first time, it’s a spot where food and atmosphere steadily unfold in ways that linger well beyond the last bite.

Service was excellent. Food was delicious atmosphere was great. We didn’t have a reservation. It was spur of the moment, but we will be back to try the chef kiss list

This was easily one of the best meals I’ve had in my life. The journey the chefs brought us on as well as the presentation and energy they had was great. It just kept getting better and better. The cocktails were great and the add-ons for the dishes were worth it!

I was thrilled by my experience here. The atmosphere was fun, but not too loud like other sushi spots in New Orleans. I believe this sushi spot is the only one of its kind in the city, with a quality of excellence into every bite. I’d like to think of myself as a sushi connoisseur as I’ve been to hundreds of sushi spots and hundreds of omakase experiences - this one showcased where the fish was from which I appreciated and the chef gave a great description of each bite to each guest. The chef that night was so cute & bubbly. I could tell the employees were happy & liked where they worked. The flavor of each piece was exquisite. I think for the price we paid it was well worth it and went beyond expectations. If you want high quality experience and high quality flavor for sushi in New Orleans, this is a must go

What an experience! We met with some friends for the Omakase menu and it was well worth the cost. With this, you get 12 or 15 different sashimi options. Each were so delectable and tasted Ike the best quality. They presented about 3 of the 12 at a time so you were not overloaded with a big platter. Highly recommend if you like the raw type. Our server was fantastic and knew every single item that was placed on the table. Cocktails were so good as well and I recommend their off menu rum drink. Decor inside is cozy and modern but very inviting. Don’t sleep on the apps as well and you MUST get the Brussels! We will be back very soon! P.S. catch happy hour for specials on Brussels and you better get the crispy rice trio!

We had so much fun here. There were five of us and it was an absolutely wonderful way to spend an evening. Much of the success of our outing was nice to Melanie, our server. She was so delightful and helpful and had a great sense of humor. She was very helpful and helping us pick out our food as well as our drinks. Service was extremely prompt. We are all sushi eaters and have had a lot of experience all around the world and feel that this was an exceptional outing for us. The sushi was absolutely delicious. The restaurant is decorated well. I would definitely come back here again when I am in town highly recommend, ask for Melanie.

Tried the omakasi. It was exceptional. Little pricy but that was expected. They have five Japanese beers. Try them in order. The fifth beer has fish flakes in the ingredients.

This place is the bomb. It's probably the best omakase I have had outside of Japan. Amazing sushi with local flavors makes it a unique experience. The talent of Chef Tu, along with his awesome personality and mastery of combining the fish with local and traditional flavors, is not to be missed. This has become one of our favorite omakase restaurants in the world. The entire team was excellent and a shout out to Gabriel. We will definitely be back.
